This post is part of my Holiday Price Tag series, where I share the nitty-gritty of my holiday spending, giving you a transparent look at what different trips actually cost me.
April and May are my travelling months. Besides this current trip, I would be away for at least ¾ of the month, with my Indonesia dive trip in end-April and Taiwan climbing trip in end-May.
In total, I spent SG$1,210 for a 2-day surf, 2-day bike, and 2-day chill trip in Taiwan from 12 – 20 Apr 2025.
My entire Taiwan expenses breakdown.
Transport (41% of expenses)
Not surprisingly, transport is usually my top expenditure, with my Scoot flight at SG$423. Other costs include internal travel between cities using Taiwan’s trains and buses.
Accommodation (22% of expenses)
Next up on the expenses list is our accommodations. The most expensive stay was at Taichung at SG$122/person for three nights. Still pretty reasonable!
I love their hotels. They were super clean with bidets on the toilet bowls – I felt like I was in Japan!
Our embarrassing stash of Gachapon toy capsules. No regrets!
Entertainment (12% of expenses)
This is the fun bit and probably what most of us would zoom in on.
Mainly, I spent on two surfing lessons (~SG$65/lesson), bike rental (~SG$14/day), and gachapon (~SG$3/spin).
We went surfing in Yilan county, located on the northeast coast of Taiwan. Specifically, we learnt from an instructor at Surfer Nation, near Wai’ao Beach, a picturesque black sand beach.
The area was known for surfing, but the timing wasn’t it. We knew that, but decided to go ahead as it’s less crowded. True enough, the waves were very erratic and strong.
Giant offers cyclists who completed the trail certificates. Here’s us posing with our physical validation of our hard labour.
As for our cycle, we biked around Sun Moon Lake – a total of 30km with steep upslopes, but the views were amazing! We headed to Houfeng-Dongfeng the next day – the tunnels and wine tasting were most memorable during our bike ride there.
Check out a snippet of our bike ride over at Houfeng-Dongfeng 😀
Always Yours,
